I've also heard of folks having problems with law enforcement and
the lack of rivets in vin plates. Galen's books mention this, and
I've always thought if I had a similar problem, I would bust out
his book. But I could easily see how his books might not be considered
proof enough, in the eyes of a law enforcement agent whose hell-bent on
a mission other than serving the public. To my knowledge, the books
aren't in the Library of Congress nor do they have an ISO issued ISBN.
It seems that it would greatly benefit all of us to ask an official,
nationally recognized organization to provide some sort of official single
page explanation, perhaps with a photograph, that we could all print off
and keep with our registration. Perhaps DC's office of the Historical
Collection could be approached? I'm sure Galen would have some advice
and/or guidance should we decide to pursue this....
