Here's an idea though. Make some sort of "press" to hold it all
together
while you bend the tangs over. Something like a small piece of scrap
plywood,
or metal plate, on each end and use long bolts/nuts to draw the two end
pieces together. Of course you'd have to cut holes and/or slots for
the steering
shaft etc. It wouldn't take much pressure to hold it all together, so
the
materials and hardware could be fairly lightweight stuff. And the
whole thing
could probably be made small enough that the job could be done with
steering
column mounted in the car. I think you'd get the best results with the
steering column out of the car though...... As I said, just an idea.

somebody makes a heavy duty spring clamp that will hold the coupler
together even if the tabs aren't bent
over correctly
it is a mopar part numbered part that a friend recently showed me
he had his coupler come apart while driving and barely escaped disaster
he now has it crimped, spot welded and the clamp on it.
i will get the info from him and post it here
