AHA! Found Sunken float

I pulled my Valiant's fuel gauge sender out last night and found that the
little brass float was full of gas! It was like a gas tank within a gas
tank. It has a couple of kinks on it that had turned to cracks. Maybe a
previous "master mechanic" grasped it with vise grips when popping it into
the wire retainer on the float arm?
Also, the filter looked perfect, but fell apart when I removed it from the
fuel line.
So I am going to go into my saved messages and find that F*rd part number
for the filter, and see if there was a recommendation for replacing the
float. I believe someone mentioned a solid plastic float that is unable to
sink. If anybody has the filter and float info handy, I'd appreciate a
re-post. I hate to ask because I know it was recently discussed here.
thanks
