Well it is true that 73 and up A bodies that had the disc brake option
had a 4 1/2" bolt pattern. But I'm almost positive that Mopar never
put an 8 3/4 rear end in an A body after 1972. (anybody know of one?)
They switched to the Spicer 8 1/4" in the 1973 A bodies. To the best
of my knowledge Mopar never made an A body 8 3/4 rear end with a 4
1/2" bolt pattern. A friend of mine is running a B body 8 3/4 rear end
in his 73 340 Duster. This is an original 1973 340 car and came
equipped from the factory with a Spicer 8 1/4" rear end.

Earl, you are correct 73 & up A - Body's with 83/4 are 41/2 bolt
pattern. I
had a 68 formula S Barracuda that I up graded to 41/2 & disc brakes.
It was
a bolt in swap from a 73 340 Duster. Also, my old parts bolted right back
into the Duster!!

Neal,
You probably have an old set of C body axles laying around.
Have them cut down and re-splined. Way cheaper, and will
Work just fine. You can find 4.5 bolt pattern A body axles
From 73 & later Dusters. Not very common, but 83/4 rears
Came in 340 & some 360 cars.
