I just read somewhere in the last couple of weeks that you should shift
10% over HP peak. In your case this would be 6600. Since you allow 500
for shift reaction time, this becomes 6100. (Wouldn't mind hearing some
opinions on those statements).

We had the engine dyno'd and it peaked around 6000 (havent got the info
to hand to be 100% sure of the exact rpm) so, after reading recently
that someone else with a similar set-up was shifting 500rpm early to
allow for the delay thru the push buttons to the trans, I thought I'd
try the same.
I did notice a delay between pushing the buttons and the trans changing
up, but didnt notice exactly whether the delay was actually 500rpm.
To get the most out of what we have, I know we need to know what rpm to
shift at, and to be sure we hit that rpm, but that was the theory behind
changing at 5500!

Robert,
Is it "done" at 5500, or are you protecting your investment? I cant say
for sure, as it's been more than a few years, but I'm pretty sure I
turned mine harder than that. I did have a bit more cam than stock. I
think the only big block I've shifted out at 5500 was a bone stock 383.
I wonder what Don D. turns on his? Still, I wish my '63 could run a 13
!!
