Heater controls

I just installed a good used heater box in my 64 Polara, and I think the 
end of the lever on the water control valve where the cable connects was 
broken off, so I drilled a hole in it to attach the cable. Now that is't 
all back together, I'm not getting hot air from the heater no matter 
which button is pushed or which way the temp control lever is pointing. 
What am I missing here?
