David, Hammer( fellow list member)just sent me some additional pics of the
frame connectors that he designed and builds. These are a few little
improvments he has developed over the years , since the pics on the 62-65
website were posted. These appear to be the best connectors I have seen.
IMO I don't think anyone would need torque boxes with his connectors. Only
downside I can see would be that they protrude slightly into the rear
floor-pan. Howerver that just adds to the strength as they are welded to the
floor. Thats GOT to help with twisting forces. Anyone have a suggestion for
making the rear carpet look and fit right? .....................MO

Thanks Gary! Those articles on torque boxes and frame rail connectors where
just the ticket! For instance, the areas I described in my previous
description would be more aptly referred to as the “rocker box” where the
longitudinal frame rails are tied to the rockers at the front or rear,
where-as; with the presents or addition of a cover plate (lid) to enclose
the rocker box, it then becomes known as a torque box. This stuff might be
old hat to most but of great value to me.
The frame connector info was also very interesting. The diagram drawings of
the Mopar chassis as per the web site, indicated the connectors attaching
squarely to the rear frame rail running straightforward attaching to the
front cross member at a slight off-set to the front frame rail. Thought the
offset is marginal, it’s the kind of info I was looking for.
The last thing learned is necessity. Although the factory applied torque
boxes only to particularly high HP cars and convertibles, and not the more
standard models even though some (like mine) came with HP 383’s, 4 barrels,
dual exhaust and 4 speeds w/ sure-grip, these cars are nearing 47 years old.
Not knowing any history of my car, I have to assume it was repeatedly
thrashed on plus Mother Nature wanting to restore this hunk of metal back to
the earth from which it came, well we know it’s no longer factory fresh to
say the least. So even thought I may not “theoretically” need torque boxes
or frame connectors, I’m now convinced I do need them if for no other
reason, then to help tighten the car up to reduce or prevent at least some
of those old unwanted squeaks and rattles.
Thanks for the help guys!

Here are some links to 4 articles that can provide some Mopar background:
1 Get Connected
2 Torqued Up
3 Boxing Match

and 4

Let us know how that helps, or not. :)
Thanks,
