Learn something new every day! . I did not know about the one whell blocked,
non posi way to get the gear ratio. I got to try that out- less risky
getting my neck ran over!....................MO

Mo is correct, I use this method all the time. I usually just count in
quarters. 2 3/4 turns is a 2.76, just under 3 turns is a 2.93, 3 1/4
turns is a 3.23, 3 1/2 turns is a 3.55, 3 3/4 turns is a 3.73, just under
4 turns is a 3.91 and just over 4 turns is a 4.10. That's pretty much all
of the standard ratios you'll find.
If you don't have a sure grip you can still do it off the ground. Block
the opposite tire so it can't turn and turn the wheel 2 full revolutions
(don't ask me why 2 but it works) and again count the driveshaft
revolutions.

Your method will work- IF- it has sure grip positraction. ( when one
wheeel is turned, the other wheel will turn in the same direction)
Make a mark on the driveshaft and count the number of turns it makes to
one revolution of the tire. Figger the driveshaft into1/10 increments
and it will get you very close to all known ratios that are available.
ie : a little over 3 and 2/10 turn of the driveshaft = 3:23 ratio-- 3
and a little over 7/10 turns = 3:73 ratio
If you do not have positraction ( tires off the ground and turn in
oposite direction to the other tire) I think if you have both tires on
the ground , move it straight forward and count your driveshat turns to
one tire turn , it will give you the
ratio...............................MO
