The ZDDP was formulated after the govt took it out of the oil. Most cars
runs today run roller valve trains so it is not that important to them. Sure
your car has 110,000 on it, but ALL the oil run thru it for the first
100,000 had the right blend of chemicals in it. STP oil treatment has some
ZDDP in it. Comp cams break in lube does too. The point is, A FLAT TAPPET
cam NEEDS this stuff EVERYDAY. Its the friction barrier that is now missing.
New roller cam engines dont have friction on the camshaft. Hell, my 409 has
a roller cam in it and I have oil restrictors in the back of the block so
the heads get very little oil. Roller set-ups dont need it. Y ou guys need
to understand that it is not up to the oil companies if they put the ZDDP in
their oil, its up the Uncle Sam!!! If they are saying they it is in there,
its probably such a small amount, that I am not risking it. ZDDP was
formulated by Richard Clark and Dennis Kirban, who are turbo Buick guys. It
is needed for the bearings in the turbos due to the fact they spin 30,000
rpms. You can get ZDDP on ebay or direct from Kirbans performance. This
thread should be about where to get it, not if you need it.

Kendall GT Hi Performance and Valvoline Racing Oil were the two mentioned.
AutoZone sells the Valvoline.

Time for me to change oil in the '63 too. Can't bring myself to run
castrol. I know we've beaten this subject to death, but one more
time, is there an oil out there with the right additives? Or,
what/where do we find the additive. Product name?
Thanx
Doug,
