Neal, the "little box" is the circuit breaker. If I understand, the
white wire from the breaker that used to go to the backup light switch
is just hanging out. going nowhere. If so, removing it will not hurt
anything.

OK, today on the 64 cuda I got to the wiring. Things under the dash
were torn up a bit from three years ago and I am trying to remember,
not very successfully. One bugaboo I have run into is on the wiper
switch. More correctly the "little box" hanging off of it
( whatever you call it). My wiring diagram shows a pink wire coming
off of it which is intact and seems OK. But there is a white wire as
well, which according to my diagram runs through the back-up light
switch in the pushbutton shifter unit and on to the back up lights.
Here's where it gets confusing... the pushbutton unit was long ago
disconnected and removed when they did the 360 swap with more a
modern (904) automatic transmission. The shifter in there is from a 68
Charger . Seems like the 68 Charger floor shifter assembly should have
a back up light switch in it but it doesn't. Guess they were elsewhere
in those. If it did I could just mickey-mouse into it and all would be
well. So my dilemma is what do I do with the orphan white wire prong
on the wiper switch.??? If I leave it off will every thing be okay?
