Sounds like time for a "custom" tool. I've done this job on my 63, without looking I don't know if my trunk looks like yours, but can't remember it being a real PITA. What about some long medical forceps, maybe curved ones. I've used them lots of times for jobs like this.

I am guessing it is an easy fix but would appreciate any tips before I start as I value others experience.
This and a leaky rear main seal are the last items to fix. I Did a first street run this week and the 528 Hemi is very impressive. Feels like Low 10's or high 9's may be possible.😳
