And an excellent job as usual. I will cut and past it below just in case you missed it. he VIN area above the oil pan says: 2C243112 2 - 1972 C - Jefferson Ave assembly 243112 - 143,112th car off the line In 1972 Jefferson Avenue produced 204,440 Chryslers and 15,757 Imperials, for a total of 220,197 units (100001 to 320197). An additional 324 Chryslers and 37 Imperials were assembled at the Wyoming Avenue plant for export. Earl Hi Earl, I think I sent the VIN pad numbers in the first post (if it was the VIN pad)). The number was: 2C243112 I will look for more numbers when I get home. Been working with Polys so this is RB stuff is new to me. Thanks again, Ken -----Original Message----- From: Earl Helm [mailto:earlh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Monday, April 12, 2004 11:24 AM To: 1962to1965mopars@xxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: Help ID 440? Ken, Your best bet for telling what the engine came out of is to look at the vin pad and decode that. It is on the bottom by the pan on the passenger side of the motor. 346 heads are fine, they have hardened seats and will port almost as good as 452's. Earl Hi Earl, Thanks for the info. Are the 346 heads good? Can you tell what the engine came out of? He also had a Hemi, but I couldn't talk him into selling it...yet. :-) Regards, Ken -----Original Message----- From: Earl Helm [mailto:earlh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Monday, April 12, 2004 10:33 AM To: 1962to1965mopars@xxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: Help ID 440? Ken, You have a 1972 440 - Compression is 8.1, and almost every one in 72 came with a Holly 600 4150 - 4160 series carb like you have. It should have 346 heads. Good motor, put a cam, manifold and larger Holly, and she should be good to go. Earl Hi, Can someone please help me ID the 440 I just got this weekend. The data pad says: First line: H440 Second line: 3 17 The VIN area above the oil pan says: 2C243112 And the casting number on the side of the block says: 2536430-9 I figured from the H440 that it is a 1972 440, but I was hoping to know if it's a decent engine and what the CR and HP for it were. Also, would like to know what car it came in. Finally, the engine came with what looks like a factory installed Holley carb. The numbers on the carb were: 3161 and List-6160-1. Would this be a higher HP engine with a Holley carb. I though they usually used the Thermoquad on the newer 440s?
