The same thing happened to me. My radiator shop said they can't fix the
leak, so I bought a used heater on E-Bay and that core was MINT. I
installed 2 pipe fittings to block off the water pump housing, then put
the heater hoses back on the fittings to make them look like there hooked
and working.

My heater core started to leak just before I put the car in storage last
year.  I removed it and found that it is leaking from inside the core.  Is
this thing repairable?  I seem to recall postings in the past where folks
discussed places you could send your cores for either repair or replacement.
I've been off-list for awhile, so I apologize in advance for not paying
better attention.

Other than having no heat, are there any other problems with just removing
the thing?

I've installed a short hose between the manifold and water pump - is that
okay?
