Also so cleans the plugs.   I have used this method serveral times.   Don't try and use the water method on a car with a cat converter.

  hard to do after the engine has been torn down, I have been told that while 
  the engine is still in running condition, that if you warm it up and pour water 
  slowly down the carb, that the drastic temp change at  the pistons will cause
