A while back Don recommended I contact Comp Cams for a cam for the cheap
street 451. I contacted cam guru, Sam, sculp@xxxxxxxxxxxx who recommended their
very new Extreme Energy XE275HL cam, part number 21-227-4. This is a 231/237
degree (@ .050) cam with a .525/525 lift. Comp Cams said that the high lift
will not hurt low end power and will let the motor breathe better if the
manifold/heads are up to it. There are 3 XE-HL cams for the B/RB and 3 for the LA
motors. I got the 275 which is has the lowest duration of the trio. I guess
they are not selling a lot of these yet as they had to grind one for me with
48 hr air freight free. They were very good about getting one out to me. I
haven't fired the motor yet, but I hope it's what they say it will be. There is
an article on the Comp website about these cams under "what's new" These are
supposed to be mopar specific cams, not chevy lobe patterns.
Don, what are your feelings about the high lift not hurting streetability?
Have you ever ran a cam with this much lift and low duration? Joe
