Agreed. They say wait until it has a skin on it. I wait like an hour, then put it on. And like you said, I do just enough to start to see it squeeze, then come back the next day and do a final torque. I don't add oil for another day after that...

That's how I installed mine and it split out at the corners.
I also used a torque wrench and torqued the bolts in the correct
pattern.  I think next time I would torque the bolts to about 100 inch
lbs then wait until the Permatex dries some before I finished torquing
the bolts.  I think when it's wet it's too slippery.

I always apply a thin coat of permatex aviation form-a-gasket to both sides of the gasket. It hasn't failed me yet...
And remember to never over-torque! ; )
