Re: Is my new engine ruined?

I have to say you have kept in better conditions than sitting in an open air salvage yard.

Which BTW, I in the past, purchased an engine that turned over by hand, had 100K miles on it.  Gave each cylinder a few squirts of Marvel Miracle motor oil. Turned over with the starter.  Then let it run and ran it every day with no problem.

Use your best judgement.  Follow your gut.

Pull the rags out of the intake, pre-lube it, and try it

Hi folks, I am wondering if my brand new 340 has sat too long and if i

I guess on my Barracuda project  I got the cart before the horse and
should have had the engine  rebuilt last. Now that everything is ready to
go, I am wondering if the engine could be rusted up from sitting for 5
years.  It has been in my insulated shop, and I turned it over by hand
occasionally ( but probably not often enough).  The intake was stuffed with
rags as were the headers. But still, Oregon is pretty wet in the winters
with plenty of humidity.
Admittedly this is not my proudest moment, but with covid shut downs,
unemployment and health issues things kind of got away from me. Once again,
I should have been on top of this but I wasn't.
I am wondering if  I should pop the heads and inspect the cylinder walls
and valves..
   What do you guys think??
