Some of you may remember me posting about thinking about updating the
power steering in my 1964 Dodge Polara. I decided to get the Borgeson
steering box from Bergman Auto Craft. Peter Bergman makes a steering
column coupler (BAC Direct Fit Coupler) and BAC PS Line Kit that makes
installing the Borgeson box a take-the-old-one-off,
bolt-the-new-one-on project. So, I ordered the box and Peter shipped
it out the same day. Took it my mechanic, they took off the old one,
put on the new one and discovered the pitman arm didn't fit. I had
ordered the Small Sector box that is supposed to fit a 1964. Since my
engine is a 1966 and I'm not totally clear on some of its mechanical
history, I think that may explain the following: The shop couldn't tie
up a service bay to keep my car inside for however long it could take
to get the right parts, so they put the old (perfectly good) box back
on and I went an ordered a new pitman arm to match the small sector
box. Peter shipped it the day I ordered it. I got the new pitman arm
and then we discovered the power steering pump line-connector did not
fit the pressure valve that came on the small sector box. So, once
again, Peter shipped the bigger valve the same day I called him. So,
to make a long story short of a really long story.....
After starting this project in February, They got the new box
installed yesterday and I just got back today from getting the front
end realigned. All I can say so for is, it is definitely an upgrade in
handling and driveability and to me, well worth the effort.
Thanks to all for your replies and advice,
