I know that if you refer to "ground" to some electritians it really ticks them off. For these guys in it neurtal.It is the ground indeed. Pull the cover from your breaker box and take a look see. The way they get 220 is by using 2 110 sides of the grid, thus the bigger breaker. As far as I know,which may not be much, and A/C motor will NOT run backwards if the 2 hot wires are switched.The 3 wires that come from the pole or underground are 1 ground,or neutral, and 2 110 hot lines that are phased opposite one another. If I am right,yeah me, if I am wrong,send me to the corner and make me look at photos of gm cars.
