sounds more like a timing problem. Perhaps the advance is advancing too much, had the same problem once because I was determined to have my 383 set 10 degrees ahead, but cold, it would backfire through the carb when weight was applied to the engine, and every time I tried to cruise it would jump and surge every where. Ended up setting it at 0 because the vacuum advance was a lot stronger than the last dist. Maybe this little experience could help?? Good luck.

Hello Group.

Well we finally fired up the 413 max wedge and it sounds awesome. It has been a long time coming as some of y'all may know. Can anyone direct me to some info regarding the tuning of the 3447 carbs? thanks for all your help. Incidentally, the engine would start in park but would backfire through the carbs after about 10 seconds. It runs fine in neutral.
thanks
Ray
