well my book says this:
     if its a 6 banger first number wuld be 4, if its an 8 cyl  it
     should be 6
       second number is the series could either be 2 or 6
       third 4
        fourth - depends where it was made ( ass. plant)- detroit 2, 
        detroit( jefferson) 3 ,LA 5,  Newark 6, st louis 7
