Thanks for all the replies! Please don't think I was trying to "stir the pot", I am curious because I am in the process of finishing the paint on my 65 coronet. Perhaps some of the plants did it and some didn't. Perhaps 1st and 2nd shift put black-out behind the grille and 3rd shift didn't... who knows. The ONE thing I am sure of is that everytime I think I know something for sure about these old Mopars I find out I really don't!!

I have found similar results with the trunk paint. Some of them (65 coronets) have the trunk the body color and some of them have it in speckle.

my red 64 330 is body colored behind the grille / my light blue 63 Plymouth has the black paint
from watching this subject it appears the 64 s did not get the black paint

I just went out and checked my '64 Belv. It's body color too.

A freind had a 64' Ply Fury with original paint, it was body color behind
grille. Also he has a 64' Dodge 440 2 dr. post wearing it's original paint
too, body color.
