Hey, Schuyler.

Nobody responded to this post.  I just stretched the tape a little as I 
put it on.  Be careful, though.  I stretched it too much at first, and 
had to peel it off, and some paint came with it.  I ended up with just 
under 1/4" of overlap, but this was after I had stretched it once.  That 
put all four 90 degree marks where they should be, which was the whole 
point of the tape, to assist me in adjusting the valves.
BTW, I would not want to begin to attempt this with the balancer on the 
engine.  I had trouble enough with mine on a workbench.
