If you happen to run into a 600 Edelbrock (part $1406, I think) at a good 
price, consider it.  I had excellent luck with one on my first 440 build which 
was mild (9.0 cr, 6-pack resto cam).  Bolted on & ran perfectly out of box, a 
god thing for those without mechanical skills like me.  Later had a dyno tune at 
Joe Jill's shop just for fun, the only thing they could find to improve 
factory settings was enrichening mid-range.  Factory probably set that 
conservatively for a modicum of economy.
