My 65, 69 and 71 FSMs say to remove the LCA and strut rod as a unit then remove the strut rod.

With the car on the ground, remove the nut at the front frame where the bushings are. Then lift the car up and remove the nut at the control arm end. If you can't get enough room to change the bushings, you'll have to take a ball joint loose and slowly, carefully unload the torsion bar. You should not have to remove the lower control arm from its pivot.

I had to pull the lower control arm on mine, leaving the strut bar attached to it. There might be an easier way, but I wanted to replace all the bushings at once, anyway.
