   John, you can machine a 516 for Max Wedge exh valves 1.88. However because of the lack of the larger Max wedge ports and the engine being smaller ,the later 68-78 1.75 exh is the way to go. Yes, you should have the heads machined (Exh valve area bored and an insert pressed into the bored hole then machined ie: valve job ) for the hardened exh valve seats. Unless the heads have had several valve jobs which have sunk the int valve it should not be necessary to have seats put on the int valve side. The amount of angles on the seat have nothing to do with hardening the seat........Mike

  thought that if you got 3 angle valve job on older heads, that they can be 
  hardend for unleaded gas? Do I need hardened valve seats when i get my 361
