there is the levrage of the pivot point to float length  vrs to pivot to needle contact length. Never measured it but lets say for thesake of arguement it is 10 to 1. 
Next is the size of the hole. in the seat. Big for gasoline is .110" (oversize holley)
so if we have 7 psi  Pounds per sq inch pushing on an orifice .110' dia .  .110" is .110 X .110 X .7854 = .0095 sq inches so the pressure excerted is 7x .0095= .066531 pounds (not psi but actual force) With 10 to 1 leverage on the float arm it is "ein stueck von kuchen" to hold it (aka  "a piece of cake") 
I reserve the right to check my math when i have more time but the basic idea is there.
