Re: 64 440 k member

Andy,

The torsion bars are larger in the V8 cars and they will
interchange. Since your car was a slant 6, I would probably change out
the K-member although Schumacher may have motor mounts that would work
with the big block. You can also install a later K-member such as a 69
or so that would move the engine back some and give better header
clearance. I think you can go with a K member up to 1970.

Hello,
I recently got a 64 440 2dr hardtop that used to be my Dads car 13 years ago. I want to put a 440 into the car it was a slant 6 model. I have a few questions .
-Are the torsion bars larger on the v8 cars ?
- If so can i just replace them on my car ?
- Or is it better for me to replace the whole k member ?
- And if so what k member should i look for ?
- What years k member will fit onto my car ?
Thanks Andy
