Foam roller and thin the paint a lot. Roll paint on and let set, wet sand and repeat a few times. Use mireral spirits instead of thinner so you can work out bubbles before it dries.

 My Dad claimed that they used to paint cars with
brushes back in the old days. Let it set up real good
then wet sand till smooth and polish to a fine
finish.No reason to doubt him. I guessing that the
quality of the roller would be quite
important,possibly foam?
