Mine is about 3/4 inch, no more.  This also just by the "looks right" method. 
 I'm willing to bet the original installers back in the day didn't use 
templates or other exact means, I'll bet they varied a good amount.

Maybe you could get the Mosher people to tell you, or look at original 
magazine photos, or track down a Carlisle judge if you are building a show car for 
points.....
