Hi Jeff,
You'll need an inch pound torque wrench to adjust the bands. Back off the jam nut on each band and then tighten the adjuster screw to 72 inch lbs. back the adjuster screw back 2 turns for the low/reverse band (rear band adjusted on the inside of the pan) and 2 1/2 turns on the kickdown band located on the outer case left side towards the front. Tighten down your jam nuts making sure the adjusters don't turn and you're all set.

I just pulled the trans pan off the 67 Newport I just got to change the
filter and gasket. It was slipping badly, so I thought this might help.
Are there any shortcuts to checking the bands to make sure they're
adjusted correctly? The procedure in the FSM is a little confusing, but
this is the first time I've had to trouble-shoot a 727. Any tips to
avoid a rebuild here? Thanks
