There are two seals on the 65-up 8.75 rear. There is a seal in the tube which is supposed to keep gear oil in the housing and off the bearing. There is also a seal in the flange (other side of the bearing) to keep the bearing clean and packed with grease).
You do not have to replace the bearing to change the inner seal.
Anyways Neal, since when has it been so hard to tell gear oil from brake fluid? They smell different, plus checking the wheel cylinder for a leak is a no brainer.
