Ball n Trunnion, etc

Thought I'd post an update on where we are with our Polara's driveline
vibration problems.
Last attempt to eliminate the problem was fairly successful, achieved by
fitting the correct circlips ('C' clips did the trick, replacing the
ill-fitting metric circlips) and replacing the transmission mount (from
Schumacher industries).
As soon as we got out on the road we could tell the majority of the
steady-speed driving vibrations had gone, but there was still a worrying
shudder when the throttle was mashed from a steady 50 or so.
And when we did that on that first road test we lost the
already-disintegrating rubber gaiter from the ball'n'trunnion.
So, where to find a replacement? We already knew of one that was
available through Doug Ahern that could be fitted without removing the
drive shaft (or propshaft as we call it), but had since became
unavaiable, so asked around over here.
We asked a company we knew of through our work, that makes gaiters and
bellows, and after a bit of to-ing and fro-ing, placed an order for a
couple (to satisfy their minimum order value) of split gaiters that can
be fitted without removing the shaft from the car. Those gaiters arrived
last week, so we took the prop off the car to get it rebalanced with the
new gaiters fitted (to ensure whatever clips used to hold the gaiter on,
were balanced too).
We're collecting the balanced prop with gaiter fitted later today to
refit tonight/tomorrow.
We've a local classic car show to attend tomorrow (Wed) so will be able
to see how successful the rebalancing has been.
But the main goal is to completey cure the problem ready for this
weekend so we can try her out on the 1/4 for the first time!
Dont really fancy 'giving it large' if we haven't eliminated the
problem.
Hopefully have some good news to report towards the end of the week, and
then some respectable 1/4 times at the end of the weekend!!
