Re: Convertible tops

My understanding is that factory headliners for convertibles didn't arrive
until the 80's. If you saw one on a 60's car, I will say that someone added it
on after the fact, unless someone gives me some hard evidence to the
contrary.
And that's probably why Legendary wasn't interested.

In the 60's, black, white, tan or most any other color convertible top had a
black underside. This was true even when the folding frame was painted to
match the interior colors. One good practical reason is that every time you fold
the top down it rubs against the folding top frame and gets dirtier. Pretty
soon you've got a real nasty looking underside to your top, which is patently
uncleanable. A convertible top which is black on the underside hides almost
all of this. So, even if it was original (which, once again, I'd need hard
evidence to believe), you'd have to really be into self inflicted pain to
custom order one, made with white or tan underside. I actually did that once, and
regretted it, big time.
Cheers.

My '65 Dart had an inner top that covered the top frame and rails. I
assume the coronet did as well.

My friend was the upholsterer (another '65 mopar guy), and even offered
the old one to Legendary as a pattern and they werent interested.
