total mechanical advance adjustment?

hi all,

can some point me to the procedure for adjusting the total mechanical  
advance on the MP electronic  distributor?
Im running the vacuum advance blocked off.
I think my total advance timing has gone astray and need to measure  
it and likely repair and adjust to proper settings.
