the valve will be fine. max wedges used a 1.88" valve with a small bore notch so the 1.74 should be fine.
the later heads will probably drop you a full point, or down to 9:1ish. keep in mind these are only the numbers on paper as what actually came out the door of the factory was often way off. usually 10:1 was more like 9 or 9 1/4:1
