Correct-you certainly don't want it contacting the back of the camshaft, You
would have an oil leak in short order.

Thank you, Stevan. My friend told me the same thing, but I was a little
nervous because a couple of big blocks I've looked at had them in deeper
than that. There is a machined ridge inside the hole--do you think it
is there to stop it from going in too far, maybe?
