Subject: Tapered Axle Removal

Hi folks,

I have a question (or two) about removing the tapered axles from my wife's
64 Polara 500.

I have removed the brake drums and can easily remove the 5 nuts that hold
the axle and backing plate to the axle tube. My question is "since I can
easily remove the nuts that hold the axle in place, do I really need to
remove the hub (that is actually doing nothing now since the brake drum has
been removed)?

Another question is "Are axle seals and standard style bearings available
for the 64 axle housing?

Please to advise.

Thanks.

K.
