Trans Temp

I installed a trans temp gauge in my 65 Satellite. The drive train is 1972, 727 Torqueflite, 440 engine. Trans temp was always running about 240 degrees. I was always having water overheating problems. I moved the transfluid out of the radiator and put in a seperate trans cooling coil and fan.

Since I have done this my water overheating problems have vanished. I always run a water temp of 180 to 195 now with A/C going full blast. On a 95+ day with A/C, might hit 210, but comes right back down when moving.

My trans temp runs about 250 with the cooler. I have been told that trans temp runs high and u are good to go up to 300 degrees. If u exceed this u will have trans slippage and the cure is go to a syntenic oil.

My cooler is a cheap one. Bought from Summit. Part #DER-13730. The only place I had to mount it was between the rear bumber and fuel tank.
