Re: Seat Belts

The bolts that go into the captive nuts in the floor tunnel-- might be a good idea to get underneath and spray then with rust solvent. Since they are exposed to road dirt, etc, Hopefully the outside ones are not rusted as they are more protected.........................MO....sw iowa ----- Original Message ----- From: "65" <65Val@xxxxxxxxx>

Mike...both ends of the seat belts should have nuts that are captive to the floorpan. The belts near the center of the car have the captive bolts visible from underneath in the driveshaft tunnel. The other end is ,indeed, in the rocker panel area, and impossible to get to without major work. They usually stay in place when removing the big bolts.

Good luck.

Folks, I want to replace my stock front seat belts in my '64 Dodge Polara 500. I have the replacements, but before I unbolt the big bolts that hold them to the floorboard I am wondering if there is a loose nut on the other end of the bolt. I can't see any from the undercarriage, and the outside belts are attached to an area without any access from the undercarriage, so I am assuming that the bolts must be threaded into the frame somehow and not loose nuts. Is that right? Thanks. I would hate to hear a loose bolt drop into a place you need a air hammer to get to!
