Re: More radio stuff

It sounds to me like all he did was put a switch between the AM tuner output and the amplifier in the stock radio. With nothing plugged in, the AM tuner output gets amplified like original and goes to the speakers. When you plug in your Aux input, it sends that to the amplifier instead, so you don't hear the AM tuner output and you get amplified Aux output to your speakers. However, keep in mind that you won't get stereo sound as the amplifier and speakers are only for one channel. The question is, did he build it to mix down your two stereo channels to one, or is he just taking one side. Listening to something like The Beatles' "Nowhere Man" will tell you real fast, as the lead vocals pan from side to side a few times early in the song. If the vocals don't fade out, you're hearing a mix of the left and right channels. If they do fade out, you're only hearing half your music.

Subject: More radio stuff

We had a discussion here, not too long ago, about radios. Here is some text from an ad:

"This is a rebuilt 1965 Plymouth AM Radio. This radio came out of my 1965 Belvedere but should fit other models. Mopar model number, 224, Bendix model number. 5BP. This is a repaired working radio. The tuning mechnism has been cleaned and lubed. It works smoothly and the push buttons work. I have replaced the dial lamp. Sorry I do not have the the knobs for this radio.

"I have added an auxiliary input jack for a MP3 player or Portable CD player. The radio will auto mute when a MP3 player is plugged in. Use the players volume and tone controls to change settings. The radio has been aligned and I have added longer power and dial lamp wiring. The radio sounds good and has plenty of volume. Any player, MP3, CD, IPOD and Walkman will work all it needs is a headphone jack. Note: Many MP3 players also have FM tunners in them."

I did not know you could modify a stock AM radio so it played FM and MP3 CD. Interesting option!
