Re: Convert points to electic

It is highly unlikely that changing the ignition will change the starting. Elctronic ignitions has really only one big advantage. The points dont wear and the dwelll doesnt change with time so the engine stays in tune (or literly in time)longer , in fact timing wise excluding timing chain wear indefinatley. Want to know if the choke is the problem .?squirt a little gas in the carb mouth before you start it after the next long sit. if it fires immediatley theh you know for sure thatis the problem. I spent a life time repairing chokes or so it seemed. In one dealership i felt I did at least one per day. In average it probably was.

I initially had a starting problem like that with mine. I did two things, sprayed some Liquid Wrench on the choke linkage stuff, and then read my owners manual about starting it! I have had too many Fords I guess, when they are cold you pump the pedal all the way down twice to start. That just floods the Ball and Ball 2 bbl., the manual says to push the pedal down half way and hold it while cranking. That has worked like a charm. BTW, the #1382 Petronix unit says 383, 426, 440 engines with Autolite or Prestolite distributors. Guess you need to check what kind of distributor the '62 361 2 bbl. has.

Thanks Mike,

I don't know if it'll fix the starting problem either.. but I thought I
do it anyway

weird thing about the starting problem, it'll start right up if left
overnight.. but a couple days without running, it's a b***h to start..
maybe the automatic choke?
