speedometer

My speedometer on my 64 Dodge is making all kinds of noise, but only when it is cold out, and then when it warms up it goes away. It also is erratic, needle moves around a lot. Is that a indication of the cable no good, or the head is bad?? Can you oil or lube it somehow? Thanks, Harry
