Subject: 1965 8 3/4 question
Guys,
When we replaced the rear end in my 330 wagon a couple weeks ago, we
replaced it with a '65 8 3/4, one of two that I bought from a reputable
62-65 Dodge car/parts peddler out here on the West Coast. When I bought
them, the guy told me that these '65 rear ends were special in that they
were narrower than any of the other 1962-1970 8 3/4s, and they were a
one-year only deal. My buddy doesn't believe the story. He claims that he
"looked up the dimensions" and that all the 8 3/4s from 1962-1970 are the
same. But then I looked in a older copy of Mopar Muscle, and they had a
picture of a 1965 Coronet wagon in a junkyard in Arizona, stating at the
end of the caption, "Again, the '65 B body rear axle is a special one-year
only-piece. Come and get it!"
Can anyone shed light on this. What gives? Is the '65 rear end a one-year
only piece, and if so, why?
