Re: milling heads

I am milling a set of 452's.Had the heads cc they checked out at 92 cc need to get down to 88 cc.That is why I need to know how much does each .010 milled off reduce the cc by.

  Ed,
What heads are you milling? It depends on if the heads are open or
closed chamber - milling an open chamber head will reduce the chamber volume
by more than milling a closed chamber head.

Without crunching the numbers (I can get you the formulas if needed)
the old DC performance Bible states that (and I'll paraphrase) milling the
late model open chamber heads .060" increases compression 1.5 points, so
.010" would get you roughly 1/4 point of compression. On the older closed
chamber heads ('62-65 vintage) .060" only gets you about 1/2 point, or .08
  points at .010"

For greater accuracy you would have to calculate the area of the
chamber at the head surface, then calculate for volume at .010".

For big blocks (can't say whether the angles are the same on others)
mill the intake face .0123" for each .010" milled from the deck surface.

  SC

Any one know for every 010 milled off is equal to how many cc's .How much
off intake size of the head per 010 also?
