I don't recall the measurements, but that sounds right. You can't machine the 833 OD retainer down to 4.3, but there is enough meat on it to go down to 4.8, for which car bellhousings exist. I lucked out and already had the 4.8" bellhousing.

Dave, I have the bh with the smaller center register in my car and it's
my understanding you can't machine the 5.1" br down to fit the 4.3"
register. At least that's what all my research says. Did you use the bh
with the 4.8" register? I've heard you can do it that way.
