Re: Tming Chain Stupid Question

Might pay to do a compression check as well?

that should only take 30 mins, alot better than pulling the motor apart still not knowing whats wrong?

Whats the vacuum of the running motor?

You may have a bent valve????

Moving on from the timing gear issue. I don't think we've solved his
problem.

The stalling sounds like a timing related problem. I suggest he check
the spark plug firing order. Especially 5 and 7. Car will run with
these swapped but not very good.

One common problem is a vacuum leak but the motor usually runs faster,
not stall out, as in Nico's case.

All, just finished putting Eddy Victor Heads ported to Max wedge size, Indy dual plane intake, Crane Hydraulic Roller in the winter top end overhaul of the 440 in my 63 330. It barely runs, pops out the exhaust on decel, won't
idle. I have moved the timing all over the place from staright up to 33
degress at 3k with no difference in running characteristics. I am sure that
all the plugs are firing and the valves are adjusted properly so am at my
wits end on this one. Now, the only thing I can figure that I messed up on
the build was that I set the timing marks in line top of each gear at TDC
firing instead of the bottom of cam gear to top of crank gear. So my question
is: will setting the timing marks the way I did manifest itself as I have
noted above. I really don't want to rip it all back apart but will if i have
to. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
