Seems to me felt between fenders would be a rust magnet!

hi all
when taking any metal components off,such as fenders ,dash, heater box,tail
lights and so on.
should some kind of felt be put between the metals ,is this for all and any
metal to metal contact.this is to help cut down on squeeks is this correct.
