Back up switch

Hey guys, on my 64 Sport Fury with Auto on floor. When I go into reverse I can see the back up lights flick on, but when the shifter engages into the R location, the lights don't work. Is the switch bad or is there some adjustment where the switch mounts that I can adjust. thanks
