RE: engine compartment

I found that article I previously mentioned. It’s titled, “B Body Resto Special” by Mark Ehlen. It was in the April 1993 issue of Peterson’s Muscle Car (Classic?) Magazine - pgs 50-57. Mark begins his writing with a description of the restorer’ Bruce Hinrichs’ “Obsessive Behavior” with the meat of the article titled “More Than The Sum Of Its Parts - Everything you wanted to know about restoring ’62 – 65 B-bodies but didn’t know who to ask.” Obviously, not everything you need to know can be included in this one article but the text with 24 pictures and captions provides much info relevant to our ’62 – 65 B-bodies. And at the end is a lengthy list of “undercarriage / engine compartment colors”.
Yea, I know, it’s a 17-year-old issue and I don’t know if that particular mag is even published any longer but the article has a lot of great info. Gary H., is there a chance this article might be buried in the archives somewhere?
Thank you,
Dave B

I think I may still have it but don’t know just where it is right now but I’ll look for it. In the meantime, I remember the article was impressive by the amount of info it covered. As Akron Don Gallimore stated, the undersides of the hood and deck lid, all hinges, doors, doorframes and jams are body color as well as the firewall, inner fenders along with that part of the steering column assembly, the radiator support and the (bolted in) hood latch bar. The K member and steering box (I believe) should be a semi-gloss black. Steering components may have received a quick “hit or miss” shot of black paint but most likely were left in their raw metal state. Concerning the front suspension torsion bars, I’m fairly certain these were well protected against rust with black paint as the factory manual stresses not to scratch or nick them or if damaged to immediately smooth and repaint.
> As for the radiator, they are a somewhat glossy black but they should only be painted with a “radiator black” paint. Regular paint is too thick and actually acts as an insulator thereby reducing its ability to shed the heat like it is supposed to.
